Widget shows up mostly untranslated

Locally, in Plone coredev checkouts of 6.1 and 6.2, the widget shows up like this when adding or editing an Event:

On 6.0 it is fine. On the classic demo site with 6.1.3 it is fine as well.

Do others see this? Would this be a problem with plone.formwidget.recurrence or with plone.app.locales or something else?

@mauritsvanrees I cannot reproduce this problem on 6.1 locally.
Which language is your site in? Do you have any other customizations (e.g a mockup checkout and running the bundle from there?)

I also could not reproduce this in a fresh 6.2a1 english site ... strange

The recurrence translations are a mixture from plone.po and plonelocales.po. (see https://github.com/plone/plone.formwidget.recurrence/blob/master/src/plone/formwidget/recurrence/browser/i18n.py) but the msgid's from the preview long_12ate_for1at are really strange ... the preview is loaded from the @@json_recurrence view here https://github.com/plone/plone.formwidget.recurrence/blob/master/src/plone/formwidget/recurrence/browser/json_recurrence.py

Ah ... I could reproduce this, when defining explicit zope_i18n_allowed_languages in buildout for the instance ... if you do

recipe = plone.recipe.zope2instance
environment-vars =
    zope_i18n_allowed_languages de

but have an english site, the msgids are untranslated ...

Just tried again in the coredev 6.2 buildout. In parts/instance/etc/zope.conf I only see zope_i18n_compile_mo_files true, so the languages are not restricted.

I looked in the browser developer tools in local storage, where some translation files are kept, and I removed everything. Then reloaded, and it still looked wrong.

But what is perhaps strange, is that in local storage I then get widgets-en-gb and widgets-en-gb-updated. That fits the language of the site.

Aha: if I change the site language it to simply English (not English-British), and reload the event edit form, then local storage contains widgets-en, and then it works.

So theory: the widgets translations don't work for country-specific languages. Maybe the code that generates this, should merge the widget translations of en and en-gb. I am not sure where this happens.

So I suppose this is not a problem specific for the recurrence widget. But then I do wonder why I only notice it here. Maybe I have not looked closely enough. Or the recurrence widget is some special case.

As mentioned above, the recurrence widget translations are not from widgets.po - they are translated in the z3c.form widget view (plone and plonelocales) and injected via the widget options to pat-recurrence ...

So looking at weblate, the translation of en-gb/plone.po is at 1% https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/plone/plone/en_GB/

I could reproduce this when enabling en-gb on classic demo https://classic.demo.plone.org/en-gb/recurrence-translation-test/view (not sure how long this persists)
